Ian McCall out of UFC 208 due to illness, his fifth straight dropped fight

If Ian McCall had any luck at all, it would be bad luck.

The UFC flyweight has fallen ill and will not be able to compete against Jarred Brooks at UFC 208 on Saturday in Brooklyn, the UFC announced Saturday morning. Champions was the first to report the news.

McCall had gastrointestinal issues and had to be transported to the hospital, per the UFC. He was pulled from the card on the recommendations of a doctor.

McCall, 32, has been plagued with uncommonly bad luck on fight week. This is the fourth time he has gone into the week of his fight expecting to compete only to have the rug pulled out from under him for various reasons.

In November, McCall was supposed to face Neil Seery in Belfast, but Seery got sick the day before the would-be fight. McCall would have faced Ray Borg at UFC 203 in September, but Borg got sick during fight week. Before that, Justin Scoggins had issues with his weight cut at UFC 201 in July. Also, McCall was supposed to fight Dustin Ortiz in August, but he got hurt himself and had to withdraw.

McCall’s original opponent for UFC 208 was actually Seery, but had withdrew due to personal reasons and Brooks stepped in on short notice.

The last time McCall (13-5-1) competed was a loss to John Lineker in January 2015.

UFC 208 is headlined by the inaugural women’s featherweight title fight between former bantamweight champion Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie.
