The UFC’s first show in San Antonio, Texas since 2014 is beginning to take shape.
San Antonio Express-News reported on Thursday that a women’s bantamweight matchup between Irene Aldana and Raquel Pennington is on tap for the July 20th show, while heavyweights Walt Harris and Oleksei Oleinik have been rebooked for this event.
Aldana (10-4) is on a three-fight winning streak, having previously lost her first two UFC bouts. Just a few days ago, the Mexican prospect won by armbar against Bethe Correia at UFC 237, marking her first career UFC finish. Pennington (9-7) is a former title challenger looking to end her two-fight skid. After a one-sided TKO loss to champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 224, Pennington then lost to Germaine de Randamie at UFC Denver last November.
Harris (12-7, 1 NC) wrecked Sergey Spivak at UFC Ottawa earlier this month, stopping the newcomer in under a minute to win Performance of the Night honors. He was scheduled to face Oleinik on that event, but Oleinik was chosen to face Alistair Overeem on short notice at UFC Moscow. Oleinik (57-12-1) would lose by first-round TKO to Overeem, ending his winning run at two.
The other fights confirmed are: Mario Bautista vs. Jin Soo Son (men’s bantamweights), Domingo Pilarte vs. Felipe Colares (men’s bantamweights), Sam Alvey vs. Klidson Abreu (light heavyweights), Alex Caceres vs Steven Peterson (featherweights), and the previously reported matchup between Liz Carmouche and Roxanne Modafferi (women’s flyweights).
UFC San Antonio takes place at the AT&T Center and will air live on ESPN. No main event has been announced.
