RIO DE JANEIRO — Anderson Silva believes Ronaldo Souza deserves the next shot at the UFC middleweight title, but would understand if the UFC offered him the shot from a business standpoint.
“Jacare” is not a fan of his possibility, though.
Souza and Silva, who train together at X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro, are slated to meet Tim Boetsch and Derek Brunson, respectively, at the UFC 208 pay-per-view card in Brooklyn on Feb. 11, and “Jacare” told the media how he would react if the promotion gives “The Spider” a fight against 185-pound champion Michael Bisping next.
“Friendship continues. (But) I’d definitely be upset because I’m the next in line,” Souza said during a UFC 208 media day. “I’m not a hypocrite and say ‘Oh, cool.’ No, it’s not cool at all. I’d be super upset, but God blessed him.
Laughed Souza: “Man, God really likes Anderson because he does many things and almost everything works. Even when he does it wrong, it’s right after all. I want to be friends with a guy that is so loved by God.”
The UFC has yet to make a decision on who’s next for Bisping, but Yoel Romero is likely the No. 1 choice after a vicious knockout victory over Chris Weidman in New York. However, Souza says he has got to a point where he doesn’t even care about fighters cutting the line anymore.
“Man, this thing about cutting the line is happening so much with me that I’m used to it already,” Souza said. “Go on in front of me, my lawyer is God. I’m cool. I have my house, my family is healthy, I’m fine with my wife.”
“Want to cut the line, do it, just don’t turn your ass to me because I’m a man and that doesn’t work,” he added. “But if you want to cut the line, go for it.”
