Win or lose, top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza is sticking around, signing a new contract with the world’s largest fight promotion on Friday in Kansas City.
That’s where “Jacare” is slated to meet fellow 185-pound bruiser Robert Whittaker as part of the UFC on FOX 24 line up (details), which takes place inside Sprint Center this Saturday night (April 15, 2017).
Terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
Souza (24-4, 1 NC), who rose to power under the Strikeforce banner prior to the dissolution of the San Jose-based organization, is 7-1 for UFC with six finishes, including last February’s submission win over Tim Boetsch.
No doubt the Brazilian needs a big win this weekend on FOX Sports 1, in order to kepis seat warm on the middleweight bus. While Yoel Romero — responsible for Souza’s loss at UFC 194 — is still ahead of him, things got complicated when Georges St-Pierre showed up asking for belts.
Now it’s just a waiting game.
