Jacare wants to improve his wrestling in the USA, believes he’ll be back in the Octagon before the end of the year.
Still recuperating from chest surgery following his TKO loss to Robert Whittaker, UFC middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza has set his sights on improving his wrestling before he steps back into the Octagon.
As Jacare shared with Portal do Vale Tudo, he’s taking his wife and kids to Winter Park, Florida, which is about a one-hour drive away from American Top Team, though Souza claims he won’t be training there.
“I’m not moving away for good,” Souza said. “I’m going to spend some time out of Brazil and since I can’t be away from my family, I’m taking them with me. My main goal is to learn wrestling, which is something I really need to improve. At first, I’m discarding the possibility of training at ATT. If I need a camp, I’m making my own space. My own place.
“I intend to be back before the end of the year. I feel well. It has been two months since my surgery and my movement feels great, I haven’t lost anything. The healing is going very well. I’ll be back in the Octagon soon, to fight a good fight.”
Before Jacare lost to Whittaker, he had a two-fight winning streak, with first-round wins over Vitor Belfort and Tim Boetsch. Souza is currently the #5 contender in the official UFC rankings.
