Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender James Vick got back on the winning track this past weekend (Sat., Feb. 4, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 104 by choking out Abel Trujillo inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas (full video replay here).
Afterward, “The Texecutioner” asked to be put on the upcoming UFC 211 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Dallas, Texas, which goes down this May. And he doesn’t want an undercard spot, he wants main card exposure.
Furthermore, Vick wants more promotional love from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), declaring on The MMA Hour that he’s 6-1 inside the Octagon and no one knows who he is.
“They didn’t ask me any good questions in the press conference afterwards. I was actually going to go off a bit and say I want to be promoted more. I talked to one of the PR guys for UFC, and told him, ‘I am 6-1 in UFC and no one knows who the hell I am.’ You got guys and girls who have .500 records in the UFC and they are getting flown to places and doing guest appearances. So I’m like, Why don’t ya’ll fly me somewhere, I’m trying to make me some money here.’ He promised he would. I just don’t understand how I am 6-1 in UFC and why I would be fighting 30 minutes from my house in Dallas and be on the freaking prelims. When I was supposed to fight Johny Case, he was 4-1 and I was 5-1 and they had us on the second fight on Fight Pass. What the fuck? That’s ridiculous.”
That said, Vick understands that a lot of it could be due to the fact that he’s been inactive, as his fight against Trujillo was his first in the last eight months. But, he insists he is far from a boring fighter and wants his time to shine in the UFC’s spotlight.
Still, Vick has yet to crack the top 15 on the official UFC rankings, but you can expect that to change later this week. Anyone think Vick is a star in the making that needs a bit more public relations love from UFC?
