Jamie Milanowski Hoping 2016 Will Be Her Breakout Year

After making a name for herself in the amateur ranks, former V3 Fights flyweight champion Jamie Milanowski made the jump to the professional ranks on June 4 with a win over fellow newcomer Yumi Matsumoto for King of the Cage.

Over the course of two rounds, Milanowski battered Matsumoto with strikes before taking the win with an armbar just over seven minutes into the fight.

“Yumi was a great opponent,” Milanowski told MMAWeekly.com. “She was very humble and very nice, so there wasn’t any bad blood. She showed a lot of heart. She was tough in the fight and didn’t want to give up.”

While she was able to dominate a lot of the action, Milanowski feels that she might have been a bit over-aggressive in the fight.

“It was my first fight being able to use knees to the head and elbows, and I tried adding a lot of that into the fight,” said Milanowski. “I probably went a little elbow-crazy.

“That first one landed and it cut her eye, so I got excited and kept throwing them. I probably should have paced them a little more, but everything went how I envisioned it. I’m satisfied with the fight but there’s a lot fine tuning that needs to be done.”

Having spent nearly four years in the amateur ranks before turning pro, Milanowski feels that she’s prepared to make serious moves this year in the flyweight division if given the opportunity.

“There was a lot of offers from different promotions, so I felt like now would be a great time,” she said. “I had eight amateur fights, so I felt like I had earned enough experience to make the jump.
