With the Professional Fighters League regular season winding down, points are of the utmost importance for those who want to make their respective $1 million playoffs. For lightweight Jason High, he’ll get the chance to rebound from a controversial loss by taking on Natan Schulte in Thursday’s PFL 5 main event on Long Island, New York. High is replacing Brian Foster, who is unable to compete on this card.
MMAjunkie has more info:
A PFL official today told MMAjunkie the promotion could not comment on the reason for Foster’s removal from the lineup. But Foster’s manager told MMAjunkie an illness will keep him from competing, and he hopes Foster will be able to find a home on PFL 6 or PFL 7 in August, both of which take place in Atlantic City, N.J.
High (21-7) fought Efrain Escudero at PFL 2 last month, losing by technical submission to the overweight Escudero in the 3rd round. However, there was no evidence that High actually tapped to Escudero’s guillotine choke, and he definitely wasn’t unconscious.
A very upset High then put his hands on the referee and knocked over chairs on his way back towards the locker room. Illinois’ athletic commission said that “The referee determined the bout to conclude by tap-out.”
High’s new opponent, Natan Schulte, is sitting on 3 points after a unanimous decision win over Chris Wade. With High on 0 points, obviously only a win will see him still in contention for a playoff spot, as a first-round finish can earn him 6 points.
PFL 5 will feature lightweights and light heavyweights on Thursday, August 2nd at 9 PM ET on NBCSN.
