Ex-UFC champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will stay at strawweight for her next fight, which will be against Tecia Torres.
For the first time in four years, Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be in a non-title fight.
UFC president Dana White confirmed to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that the former women’s strawweight champion will square off against Tecia Torres at UFC on FOX 30 on July 28th in Calgary, Alberta.
Jedrzejczyk (14-2) lost her UFC title to Rose Namajunas via shocking first-round KO at UFC 217 last November. The Polish striker was granted an immediate rematch, and while she fared much better at UFC 223, she still lost a unanimous decision. This will be Joanna’s first three-round bout since beating Claudia Gadelha by split decision in December 2014, with the win setting her up for her title shot against then-champ Carla Esparza.
Torres (10-2) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Jessica Andrade, who figures to be the next title challenger for Namajunas. “The Tiny Tornado” had built up a three-fight winning streak, including the first finish of her career vs. Juliana Lima, before running into the Brazilian powerhouse that is Andrade. Torres’ only other defeat came by split decision to Namajunas.
UFC on FOX 30 does not yet have a main event, but confirmed for the co-main event are featherweights Jose Aldo and Jeremy Stephens.
