Ronda Rousey did not look good in her return to the Octagon at UFC 207. Despite having over 13 months to fix her striking approach in order to take on current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) queen Amanda Nunes, Rousey lasted just 48 seconds before suffering her second-straight knockout loss. In turn, much has been said about Rousey’s lack of adjustments on her feet. Leave it up to a Mayweather to chime in on the situation, as former boxing pro Jeff Mayweather reacts to Rousey’s loss and offers to help her rebound.
“I think if she doesn’t, she might as well just retire,” Mayweather told Helen Yee of Eyes on the Game. “If she continues doing what she’s doing with the same guy, she’s not gonna get no better. That’s already proven.”
Mayweather, who has trained the likes of Roy Nelson and Muhammad Lawal, offered to bring Rousey in, cultivate her boxing and turn her into a “decent striker” in a matter of months.
“I would say probably, maybe two to three months,” Mayweather added when talking about how long it would take to fix Rousey’s boxing technique. “She knows how to fight, but it’s just that she hasn’t been taught the right way, that’s all. So I don’t think it would take that long.”
This guy might beg to differ. Despite the loss, Rousey is still commanding the spotlight after UFC 207. Even some of the boxing world’s finest have reached out to offer their services. Only time will tell if Rousey will not only continue fighting, but train outside of her current gym, which is becoming a problem.
