Jessica Eye: Paige VanZant ‘called Dana White’ and ‘threw a bitch fit’ to get out of fighting me

Jessica Eye talks about her supposed fight against Paige VanZant in the newly-established women’s flyweight division.

In August, it was reported that Paige VanZant and Jessica Eye had verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 216 to inaugurate the newly-established women’s flyweight division. Those plans never came to fruition because of an injury that VanZant suffered, but she is now instead scheduled to face Jessica-Rose Clark in St. Louis in January for her 125-pound debut.

VanZant appeared on The MMA Hour on Monday to confirm that she already received and signed her contract to fight Clark, but the matchup itself has not yet been made official by the UFC.

But from her end, Eye has not been pleased at the recent developments. In her own interview with Ariel Helwani on during the same episode, she unloaded on VanZant and what she believes is the real reason for the change in plans.

“Because Paige called Dana and asked to get out of the fight,” Eye said (via MMA Fighting). “They were not gonna let her out of this fight and she – whatever bitch fit she threw, I signed that contract, I signed that one October 18 I think… I got the contract signed and returned it that day for that one. I have the other signed contract that we sent back for the other fight and for the other time.”

“Listen, I’m not here saying that maybe two different things weren’t being said, but we all know that the UFC does not send contracts to people unless both parties agreed upon wanting the fight and said yes to everything.”

Eye is scheduled to fight on the same card in St. Louis against Kalindra Faria, and does not plan to create a personal rivalry between her and VanZant. Her main focus as of the moment is to get her career back on track, after a string of four losses.

“There’s no reason to talk now. I’ll get my chance and set myself straight back in the 125 division, a division that I should have been in years ago that I ruled for multiple years before I even came to the UFC, and I’ll see her on the other side of the cage,” Eye said. “And it’ll be a bad day for her in that case.”

UFC St. Louis takes place on Janury 14th at the Scottrade Center. It will also feature a middleweight bout between Uriah Hall and Vitor Belfort.
