Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants to defend strawweight title once more in 2016 before possible move to flyweight

Friday night’s main event between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha couldn’t have gone better for the reigning champion. She weather an early storm in the first two rounds before coming back to win the next three to defend her strawweight title.

And in the TUF 23 Finale post-fight press conference, Jedrzejczyk said her game plan was to wear out Gadelha, and to pour it on in the middle rounds until the end.

“It was a really tough fight with Claudia Gadelha,” she said. “We felt that she might get tired in the third, fourth and fifth round. So I was waiting for my chance. She took me down and was trying to control me, but I felt she couldn’t do anything on the ground. I didn’t feel like she could submit me, so I I was waiting just for my chance. When I put on a performance I always work so hard, so I have conditioning for 10, 15 rounds.

“You cannot be so dominant all the time. I’m ready for everyone, and I proved it again today and tonight.”

Jedrzejczyk (12-0) made her third successful title defense, and her first of 2016. The Polish champion said she’d like to end up on the New York pay-per-view card that happens on Nov. 19 at Madison Square Garden. When asked why that particular card, she said there were a variety of reasons.

“There is a big Polish community,” she said. “I know that this show in New York is going to be very big and epic show. I did a great job with Ronda Rousey in Melbourne, two main events. Me and Ronda.
