Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was sold to WME | IMG earlier this year for a whopping $4.2 billion, making rich folks like promotion president Dana White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta even richer. While White is contracted to stick around for another five years, Fertitta will set sail for new territories.
And he’s not the only one.
UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who also banked beaucoup bucks in the sale, is expected to hang up his gloves by the end of the year. That’s according to a report from MMA Junkie, which indicates the motivating factor was money, not discontent.
Silva was part of the UFC empire prior to its acquisition by ZUFFA.
Matchmaker Sean Shelby, picked from the rubble of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), could be in line for a promotion, or at the very minimum, gets some help from the outside. UFC, as well as the typically tight-lipped Silva, have yet to announce his departure.
