Referee Big John McCarthy took to social media to respond to Daniel Cormier’s apology in the wake of UFC 214.

Following his loss to Jon Jones at UFC 214, Daniel Cormier was quite emotional. Part of this emotion led to him jostling with referee John McCarthy a bit, and DC took the time to apologize to Big John in his first public statement in the aftermath of the fight.

McCarthy was quick to respond on Twitter, not having any issues with Cormier’s actions:

Jones defeated Cormier in the third round of their UFC 214 headliner with a head kick and some vicious ground and pound. According to McCarthy, Cormier was protesting the stoppage, saying it was early. He doesn’t blame Cormier though, considering he had just been knocked out and the stoppage was actually a bit late, not early. McCarthy addressed the late stoppage as well while responding to questions:

The fight had been quite competitive through two rounds, with two judges having it one round a piece and one having Jones up by two. Cormier was interviewed by Joe Rogan after the fight in a very emotional state, which Rogan has since apologized for.

It was the first stoppage loss of Cormier’s career.
