community news, Johny Hendricks is loving training at Jackson Winkeljohns in New Mexico

The former welterweight champion has all the training partners he needs to prepare for his UFC 217 fight in November.

Johny Hendricks is hoping a training camp at the infamous Jackson-Winkeljohn’s in New Mexico can help turn his fortunes around.

The last man to sorta beat Georges St-Pierre (many believe he was robbed by the judges in their 2013 encounter), Hendricks has been unable to string together wins since then. He’s 2-5 over his last seven, and a move from welterweight to middleweight didn’t stop him from missing weight for the 3rd time in his last UFC appearance.

Now he’s in Albuquerque hoping the roster of fighters there will help him regain a killer edge. He spoke with Submission Radio about the reasons for switching things up.

“I loved it, and I do love it. I think it’s been, you know, here in Texas we have partners but sometimes it’s hard to get partners. Whereas at Jacksons you have partners upon partners and people who want to train non-stop and that’s – once I showed up, they opened their arms to me and we just started working. And that’s sort of what I need, I need people that are gonna push me. And my coaches push me here, but I need the people as well, I needed the partners.”

“It’s so tough to beat a place like that when it comes to how many people they have,” Hendricks concluded. “And not only that, but how many big guys they have that I’m able to work out with. The first day I showed up I sparred six different people, and there were still four people that wanted to go, you know, but class was over. So, it’s sort of a different vibe.”

We’ll find out if the changes to his training pay off when Hendricks faces Paulo Borrachinha on November 4th at UFC 217 in New York City.
