Jon Fitch once again found himself competing for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) gold when he took on Joao “The Brazilian Samurai” Zeferino for the vacant Welterweight title at WSOF 30 this Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Well, the 38-year-old journeyman captured his first world title in nearly 14 years of professional combat, defeating Zeferino via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) to earn the WSOF 170-pound strap. Fitch improves to 4-2 in the promotion, while Zeferino loses his second consecutive fight after getting knocked out by Brian Foster at WSOF 25.

Fitch needed to check Zeferino’s world-class grappling coming into WSOF 30 this weekend, which seemed all too easy considering he was the one who dictated when and how the action hit the canvas. He maintained superior pressure and pace en route to cutting off angles on the feet, shooting double leg takedowns, working inside the clinch, transitioning out of Zeferino’s multiple submission attempts and consistently landing his lead jab.
Jon Fitch does what he does best he grinds every single fighter happy for him congrats @jonfitchdotnet

The victory now pins Fitch atop the Welterweight division, which is something that both he and the promotion envisioned when he came over from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2013.
