Jon Jones fires back again at ‘old man’ Chuck Liddell

This, apparently, was Jon Jones’ mic drop.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion let loose with some tweets Thursday night, in response to the latest barbs from UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell. Liddell tweeted Wednesday that the Octagon would be a good place for Jones to “learn from a true legend” and took a shot at Jones for his outside-the-cage conduct.

To that, Jones replied that Liddell is “far from innocent.”

“Brother I don’t have to be retired to be a legend first of all,” Jones wrote.” And you talking to me about conducting my life outside the cage is just hysterical. Chuck we all know you’re far from innocent.”

The revitalization of this beef began Monday on The MMA Hour when Liddell said he wanted a crack at Jones in the cage after a pair of warmup fights. Liddell, 48, has not fought since 2010. Meanwhile, Jones is currently provisionally suspended by USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, for failing a drug test for a steroid last year. Jones is facing a four-year suspension, though the adjudication is still going on.

After Liddell’s comments Monday, Jones replied on Twitter that he could “come get it” and he would fly Liddell to Albuquerque for a fight personally.

Liddell responded to that Wednesday with this: “I figure [the cage is] a good place for a youngin like u to learn from a true legend and champion on how to really fight and conduct your life inside and outside the ring.”

A bout between the two men is unlikely to happen, though Liddell announced Monday that he is out of retirement and in discussion about fighting Tito Ortiz later this year.
