On April 19, featherweight champion Conor McGregor shocked the world by seemingly announcing his retirement on social media after negotiations with the UFC went sour surrounding his promotional duties for UFC 200. The Irishman refused to attend press conferences leading up to the event and was pulled from his scheduled rematch against Nate Diaz. He threatened to walk away from the sport, but no one was really buying it, including former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Less than 48 hours after his tweet about “retiring young,” McGregor released a statement that he was not going to retire. Jones never believed that “The Notorious” would hang up his glove at this point in his stardom.
