Jon Jones Responds to Chuck Liddell’s Call Out After Announcing His Return to Fighting

If Chuck Liddell is looking for a fight, Jon Jones isn’t hard to find.

On Monday, Liddell officially announced his intentions to return to mixed martial arts after last competing in 2010 as he plans to come out of retirement at 48 years of age.

Not only does Liddell want to fight again but he actually feels like after getting a couple of wins under his belt that he would be ready to challenge former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

“In my mind, I would like two good warm up fights, and I’d like a shot at Jon Jones,” Liddell told MMAFighting. “I am serious, I’d like a shot at him. We will see. Just, match styles.”

Liddell and Jones have traded barbs in interviews and over social media throughout the years and it appears “The Iceman” hadn’t forgotten about that potential matchup as he plans his return to action.

Well it didn’t take long for Jones to catch wind of the call out as he responded while offering to give Liddell his shot as early as this weekend if that’s what he really wants.

“Old Chuck has been calling me out for years! I get it, I hold pretty much every record in the division. I normally try to respect my elders but if you want it come get it. I’d literally fly you out to Albuquerque this weekend,” Jones wrote on Twitter.

“You might want to test the strength of that jaw before you take a bite you cant chew.”

As much as Liddell might want to fight Jones, the chances that it ever actually happens lie someone between slim to none.

Liddell is exploring an option to come back to the sport while fighting under Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy brand and UFC president Dana White has already said numerous times he doesn’t want to see the former champion compete again after his career ended back in 2010.

At the time of his retirement, Liddell had lost three fights in a row, all by knockout, before calling it a career. As for Jones, he’s still awaiting word from USADA on when he’ll be able to return to action in the UFC.
