Jon Jones says he will ‘deal with Brock Lesnar’ after fighting Daniel Cormier

LOS ANGELES — There are a whole lot of things which would have to fall into place before Jon Jones ever stepped into the cage with Brock Lesnar.

The biggest one, at the moment, is the fact that Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champion and current professional wrestling star, remains under USADA suspension related to his UFC 200 matchup against Mark Hunt.

Lesnar, who is under contract to WWE until next spring, has his combat sports suspension frozen until he re-enters the USADA drug-testing pool, which he has yet to do.

On Jones’ count, of course, there’s his big UFC 214 main event grudge match with UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones on Saturday night at Anaheim’s Honda Center before he can even begin thinking of anything else.

But that hasn’t stopped potential combatants from weighing in on a potential showdown. Tuesday, Jones said he’d be down for a fight, and Lesnar responded in kind.

At Wednesday’s UFC 214 press conference in downtown LA, Jones teased the possibility once again. “I will deal with Daniel, and then I’ll deal with Brock Lesnar,” Jones said.

Still, while the seed has been planted, it’s going to take awhile for a fight to take root. UFC president Dana White, while acknowledging that fans in attendance didn’t seem to believe him, insisted that he hasn’t spoken to Lesnar any time recently.

“I don’t even know where that thing came from or how it started,” White said. “First of all, believe me, I haven’t talked to Brock Lesnar and I don’t know.”
