Jon Jones may be under a one-year suspension that won’t end until July of 2017, but he does have his next competition tentatively scheduled.

Jones is slated to meet Dan Henderson in the main event of Submission Underground II, according to promotion founder Chael Sonnen.

The newly signed Bellator fighter announced Jones vs. Henderson during an interview on The MMA Hour on Monday.

Jones’ suspension hadn’t yet been determined when the grappling match was made, so there could be some red tape that could gum up the works, depending upon the stipulations that Jones faces.

His current suspension is the result of an arbitration hearing after a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency out-of-competition drug test found clomiphene and letrozol in Jones’ system in the weeks prior to UFC 200 in July. Jones must also still face the Nevada Athletic Commission to see what, if any, punishment it deems appropriate, as the NAC was the sanctioning body overseeing UFC 200.

“I don’t think that affects (the grappling match),” said Sonnen.

“I don’t have a concern about it, but I suppose we have to go back to the other side and make sure there’s nothing missing there.”

Jones and Henderson were originally slated to meet in the Octagon at UFC 151 in September of 2012. Henderson had to withdraw due to a knee injury, and the UFC canceled the event.

Submission Underground II is slated for Dec. 11. Having Jones vs. Henderson headline would make it a truly blockbuster grappling event, as Sonnen added that Miesha Tate, who is fighting at this weekend’s UFC 205 in New York, is also slated to grapple with Jessica ….View full article
