Reports circulated earlier this week that reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champion Conor McGregor was interested in owning a piece of the world’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, should ZUFFA sell off the UFC brand.
Jon Jones was not impressed.
The interim light heavyweight champion told FOX Sports Live that “Notorious” does not deserve a piece of the $4 billion pie because he’s just like the rest of the combatants under the UFC banner, but at the same time, one who can also help elevate the stars around him.
Transcribed by Bloody Elbow:
“The UFC has created Conor McGregor. I think sometimes he forgets that. But, he is a magnificent talent and we’re all glad to have him as a part of the sport. He’s bringing a lot of attention, and just so much more recognition. And at the end of the day, when he wins, we all win. So, I’m grateful for him.”
Red panties for all!
Jones and McGregor have something in common as both have experienced rocky relationships with UFC President Dana White, albeit for very different reasons. The former returns to action at UFC 200 in just over a week while the latter is assigned to the UFC 202 main event.
