Junior Dos Santos wants Stipe Miocic rematch, say’s he’s the one to defeat the champion

Stipe Miocic just locked down his first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title defense with a first-round knockout of Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 earlier this month. It was Miocic’s fourth-straight knockout finish and a tremendous follow-up to his championship-stealing victory over Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198.

Outside of Stefan Struve and his flash of temporary punching power, Miocic has only come up short against former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, losing to the Brazilian via five-round unanimous decision back at UFC on FOX 13. While both fighters have taken different routes in their respective careers since then, “Cigano” believes it’s their destiny to meet again.

“I want to fight all of them if I need to, but what I really want is that belt,” said JDS in a recent interview with MMA Junkie. “Of course, everybody is here for that belt. But I really believe I can be the champion again.”

Dos Santos added that he believes nobody else has what it takes to defeat Miocic. He may be right. The 34-year-old knockout artist has shown an incredible ability to destroy some of the best heavyweights in the world today en route to claiming gold.

“I know people like to see those guys who talk a lot, who promote the fight,” added JDS. “But we don’t need that kind of energy, and I’m glad Stipe Miocic is the champion right now.”

“And he will be, until I get there.”

While the former UFC champ may be right about his past victory over Miocic speaking for itself, “Cigano” has to deal with either Cain Velasquez or Fabricio Werdum swooping in and stealing his title shot.
