A pivotal strawweight bout has been added to the UFC’s next trip to Poland.
Strawweight contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz is set to welcome Jodie Esquibel to the UFC.
Kowalkiewicz will look to rebound against the newcomer at UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland next month. UFC officials announced the pairing Wednesday.
Kowalkiewicz (10-2) is currently on a two-fight skid with losses to current champion and fellow Pole Joanna Jedrzejczyk and No. 1 contender Claudia Gadelha. Prior to that, she picked up three straight wins to kick off her career in the Octagon. The biggest win of her career is a split decision victory over Rose Namajunas.
Esquibel (6-2), who has fought under the Invicta FC banner since 2013, was scheduled to fight Livia Renata Souza in late August but pulled out with an injury. The Jackson-Wink MMA product competed on The Ultimate Fighter 23: Joanna vs. Claudia last year, but lost in the opening round to Ashley Yoder. In her last fight, Esquibel beat DeAnna Bennett by split decision this past March.
UFC Fight Night 118 takes place at Ergo Arena on Oct. 21. In the main event, welterweight contender Donald Cerrone meets the unbeaten Darren Till.
