Derriek Lewis and Travis Browne headlined UFC Fight Night 105 from inside the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a Heavyweight showdown that was flying under the radar on FOX Sports 1.
And Heavyweight hitters didn’t disappoint.
Early on, “Hapa” wisely used his reach to create distance, keeping the bruising brawler at bay with his long legs thanks to various kicks that found their mark. In fact, Browne seemingly had “Black Beast” finished on several occasions after stunning him with a front kick to the midsection. But, Lewis mustered up all his strength to hang tough.
In round two, though, Lewis — who was in visible pain — managed to close distance and find a home for his heavy bombs. And before long, it was “Hapa” who was fighting for dear life, eating a few uppercuts before telling the referee on duty he was okay. He wasn’t, though. On wobbly legs, Browne tried his best to fight back, but Lewis was relentless in his attack. Once on the ground, Lewis began to rain down elbows to the face before unleashing some hellacious ground-and-pound to the tune of 10 unanswered blows to knockout Browne in truly brutal fashion. In fact, he took at least three unconscious — and unnecessary — head bouncers before the referee finally decided to intervene.
Lewis was unapologetic in his post-fight interview … he was motivated to kick Browne’s ass and did just that. He even let his girlfriend, Ronda Rousey, know all about it, too.
