Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight standout Dustin Poirier, who moved up to 155 pounds after losing to Conor McGregor at UFC 178, was looking to lock down his fifth-straight divisional win when he met hard-hitting Michael Johnson last night (Sat., Sept. 17, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 94 from State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. Johnson, 30, was aiming to end a two-fight skid in his first appearance of 2016 since losing to Nate Diaz at UFC on FOX 17 back in December.
In a contest that lasted just 95 seconds, Johnson opened up early on the feet before landing a vicious right hook-left hand combination that sent Poirier to the Octagon canvas. “The Menace” buried his fist into Poirier’s face for good measure before referee Dan Miragliotta pulled him off and called the fight. Johnson earns the magnificent first-round knockout finish.

With this win, Johnson moves back into contention at 155 pounds. He certainly has a long way to go in arguably the deepest class in the promotion today, but a staple knockout victory over a fighter as hot as “The Diamond” goes a long way in ending a losing streak and regaining confidence.
