KSW 39 was billed as a mega-event, and the numbers back that up for the Polish MMA promotion.
While the UFC had themselves a pretty solid Fight Night card in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday, it was definitely not the biggest MMA event of the weekend.
KSW 39: Colosseum took place last Saturday at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, Poland. The card was headlined by a champion vs. champion catchweight between welterweight king Borys Mańkowski and middleweight titleholder Mamed Khalidov, with Khalidov getting the unanimous decision win. Also featured were Mariusz Pudzianowski, “Popek Monster,” as well as former UFC fighters Sokoudjou and Norman Parke.
Just how successful was this stadium show? According to KSW Federation, the card sold just under 58,000 tickets, placing it ahead of UFC 193 and only behind PRIDE Shockwave 2002 for biggest attendance for an MMA event in the sport’s history.

Details on KSW’s next event have not yet been revealed, but there’s no denying their place among the top MMA promotions in the world. That quote from Martin Lewandowski about having overtaken the UFC, though? You could say that it’s really over-the-top.
