Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will separate contender from pretender when Lando Vannata and David Teymur hook ‘em up in a featured lightweight battle at the upcoming UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for March 4, 2017 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The promotion brought word of the booking on Wednesday.
Vannata (9-1) nearly upset the 155-pound apple cart in his Octagon debut, giving top contender Tony Ferguson all sorts of trouble before succumbing to a second-round submission. “Groovy” quickly rebounded with a technical knockout win over John Makdessi at UFC 206 just a few weeks back.
Teymur (5-1) came up short on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22, but got another chance at UFC superstardom when the promotion went overseas on Fight Pass. The hard-hitting Swede made the most of his second go-round, planishing Martin Svensson and Jason Novelli in back-to-back contests.
Fun fight … who ya’ got?
UFC 209 is tentatively headlined by the heavyweight rematch pitting Mark Hunt against Alistair Overeem, assuming “Demolition Man” is willing to agree to this stipulation.
Expect more UFC 209 fight card announcements in the coming weeks.
