Leon Edwards calls out ‘little weasel’ Jorge Masvidal after UFC San Antonio; Masvidal uninterested

Leon Edwards hasn’t forgotten about his run-in with Jorge Masvidal earlier this year.

After beating Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC San Antonio main event Saturday night, Edwards called out Masvidal, a fellow top welterweight contender. The pair were involved in an altercation after their respective wins at UFC London in March, and Edwards still wants a piece of him.

“I’m on an eight-fight win streak in one of the hardest divisions in the sport,” Edwards said in his post-fight interview. “There’s a little weasel called Jorge Masvidal — accept the fight, and let’s do it. You’re not on my level. Let’s make the fight happen. Me, Jorge Masvidal. Let’s make the fight happen.”

Edwards said he hopes to fight once more before the end of the year.

Masvidal, who is coming off a five-second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239 earlier this month, was quick to respond to Edwards. Masvidal shut down the possibility of the fight happening, saying he is only interested in a title shot against 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman.

“Big difference between putting top ranked opponents to sleep and putting fans to sleep,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter after Saturday’s main event.

“So I can be clear I was promised a title shot after I beat Askren and I plan on cashing in on it. Don’t call me out no more until I get that belt.”

Edwards dominated dos Anjos, a former UFC lightweight champion, earning two 49-46 scorecards and one 50-45 card. “Rocky” battered the Brazilian on the feet throughout the majority of the five-round affair.

The win moved Edwards’ winning streak to eight in a row, while dos Anjos has lost three of his last four.
