Finally! The New York State Assembly passed a bill to legalize and regulate professional (and to a lesser extent amateur) mixed martial arts. It won’t be officially legal until the governor signs off on it, but there’s no indication he won’t. From there, a period where the commission has to work out rules and regulations takes place, but then it’s open season. Both UFC and Bellator issued press releases indicating their interest. It’s not clear how many shows they’ll be in 2016, but 2017 promises to be a huge year for mixed martial arts in New York.
