One of boxing’s pound-for-pound best talks about Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor.
Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) is slowly but surely raising his profile as one of the must-see talents in world boxing. The Ukrainian dynamo is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the reigning WBO 130 lbs champion. He has recently made his way onto the MMA scene by sparring with the UFC’s T.J. Dillashaw, as well as calling out UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor whilst in a Ninja Turtle costume.
On the topic of McGregor, who is angling for a superfight with Floyd Mayweather, Lomachenko briefly spoke with FightHub about the potential matchup, and whether or not he thought it was a good idea.
“Yeah, why not?” Lomachenko said. “If people want this fight, if people can pay for this fight, why not? It’s very interesting. But, you know, all people who understand boxing, who understand the UFC, they know about future result.”
The subject of fighting either one of those two was brought up, but he didn’t choose which one he’d prefer to face because … well … neither one of them is anywhere close to his division.
“I don’t know, because it’s not my division,” Lomachenko said. “It’s not my weight class. I can’t [be] talking about this. It looks like no respect for these fighters.”
McGregor did say that a fight announcement of his was coming soon, so we’ll see if it’s the Mayweather bout or his return to the UFC cage.
