Luke Rockhold isn’t convinced of Yoel Romero’s innocence in tainted supplement case

LOS ANGELES — When news broke in January that UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero was flagged for “a potential anti-doping policy violation” following his UFC 184 win over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Luke Rockhold was among a chorus of middleweights who teed off on Romero.

Last week, Romero, who had claimed a tainted supplement caused the test failure, came to a settlement with USADA in advance of an arbitration hearing, in which his suspension was reduced to six months.

But Rockhold, the UFC middleweight champion, remains a skeptic.

“People somehow keep slipping through the cracks,” Rockhold said at a UFC 199 media day on Wednesday. “No matter what happened.”

Romero is planning a lawsuit against the supplement maker, but as far as Rockhold is concerned, fighters need to know what they’re putting in their bodies.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” Rockhold said. “I’d like to see a clean sport. I’ll see how it all plays it. Its funny how that happens. A contaminated supplement is a contaminated supplement, but you’re responsible for what you put into your body.”
