Lyoto Machida blames supplement for canceled UFC on FOX 19 fight with Dan Henderson

A middleweight clash between Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson is off of Saturday’s UFC on FOX 19 card in Tampa after the former UFC light heavyweight champion informed the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) that he was using a banned substance.

Machida released a statement on his Facebook hours after the UFC announcement, revealing that he was using a supplement called 7-Keto, which contains DHEA, an illegal substance.

“I’m here to tell you that I was caught by surprise by this news,” Machida wrote. “It has been very difficult for me. I’ve trained a lot for this fight, I’ve dedicated a lot with all my teammates. I want to tell you that I really didn’t know about this substance, so I listed it on my declaration form amongst everything else I was taking, and this substance was recently banned in 2016, so I take the blame for not knowing that, and I’d like to say I’m really sorry and apologize to my fans, teammates, and my family… I always try to play by the book, but unfortunately this happened.”

Machida (22-7), a former 205-pound champion in the UFC, holds a 14-7 record inside the Octagon, and was looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to current middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and top contender Yoel Romero.
