Welterweight contender Demian Maia feels confident about taking on champion Tyron Woodley.
After winning hist last seven UFC bouts, Demian Maia was promised a title shot against champion Tyron Woodley. Although the match has not been officially announced, Maia went ahead and told Combate he believes October would be a nice month for the clash to go down, and that he has a good feeling about it.
“If I could choose, I’d like to fight in October. What I heard from the UFC is that it’ll be a title fight against Tyron Woodley, not it’s up to them to set the date. I have a good feeling about this fight. Around the Top 5 and Top 10 guys, anyone can win.
“Especially at my weight class, I believes there’s about five or six other guys who could be champions. But the champion is Tyron and know it’ll be a hard fight, but I think I have a good shot against him.”
During his win streak, Demian Maia defeated notable names in the division, such as Neil Magny, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit and Gunnar Nelson. He’s coming off a close win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211. His last loss came in February 2014, when he dropped an unanimous decision to Rory MacDonald.
