Bantamweights Thomas Almeida and Rob Font are set to square off at January’s UFC 220 in Boston.

An exciting bantamweight tilt is headed to Boston.

Heavy hitters Thomas Almeida and Rob Font, both of whom are ranked in the UFC 135-pound division’s top 15 and in need of a victory, are set to throw down at UFC 220 early next year. Font’s management announced the news in an Instagram post Saturday afternoon. The UFC has not yet confirmed the bout.

Almeida (21-2) last fought top contender Jimmie Rivera and dropped a decision at UFC on FOX 25 in July. Prior to that, he rebounded from the first professional loss of his career — a first-round stoppage to then-future champ Cody Garbrandt — with a TKO of Albert Morales. The 26-year-old is 5-2 in the Octagon overall.

Font (14-3) lost to Pedro Munhoz by first-round submission in his last bout at UFC Fight Night 119 late last month. In the Octagon, the Massachusetts native holds stoppage wins over Douglas Silva de Andrade, Matt Schnell, Joey Gomez, and George Roop. Besides the Munhoz upset, his only UFC loss is a 2016 decision against John Lineker in Brazil.

Also announced for UFC 220 is a featherweight bout between Shane Burgos and Calvin Kattar, per Kattar’s management.

UFC 220 takes place at TD Garden in Boston on Jan. 20. A light heavyweight title fight between champ Daniel Cormier and rising star Volkan Oezdemir is targeted for the card, but is not yet official.

With its return to Boston, the UFC will be going directly head to head with rival promotion Bellator, who is hosting a card in California on the same night with Douglas Lima vs. Rory MacDonald for the welterweight belt in the headlining spot.
