It was announced earlier this week that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight fan favorite Matt Brown will meet veteran Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 on July 30 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Having just lost to Demian Maia via third-round submission back at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil, Brown is in desperate need of a victory if he wishes to remain an ongoing piece of the 170-pound title picture. After all, despite being one of the most game fighters in the weight class, “The Immortal” has won just one fight out of his last four Octagon appearances.

While many may think that Ellenberger is the perfect candidate to help Brown earn a victory, right the ship, and get back into the win column, Brown sees it from a different perspective.

“Jake is a great fighter. Even though he’s lost a few fights lately, we know how dangerous he is,” said Brown in a recent appearance on The Great MMA Debate podcast. “That makes it more dangerous for me, right? I’ve got a guy we all know he’s dangerous. He’s hurt some guys bad, he’s knocked some guys out. He’s explosive. He’s an athlete. … Now he’s on the cutting block probably, and he’s probably got his back up to the wall. He’s being cornered here.”

Ellenberger, 31, has compiled a 1-5 UFC record since knocking out Nate Marquardt at UFC 158 back in 2013. But despite his recent difficulties inside of the cage, “The Juggernaut” still possesses world-class wrestling and devastating punching power.

UFC 201 will be headlined by a Welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and top contender Tyron Woodley.
