Former title challenger Mei Yamaguchi returns to the cage next month with the Japanese atomweight scheduled to face Istela Nunes at ONE: “Heroes of the World.”
Yamaguchi vs. Nunes is the final addition to a nine-fight card which is set for the Cotai Arena in Macau on August 13th. The Japanese fighter will be hoping to secure a rematch with Angela Lee who beat her by decision in an atomweight title match earlier this year.
Yamaguchi (15-9-1) beat three separate opponents last year to win a tournament and become the Deep-Jewels 105-pound champion. She was awarded an immediate shot at the inaugural ONE atomweight title but was beaten by Lee in a thrilling five-round fight.
Next up for the Japanese fighter is an assignment against an up and coming Brazilian fighter. Nunes (4-0-0-1) is a veteran of over 50 Muay Thai matches who is undefeated in MMA. She trains alongside UFC strawweight contender Jessica Andrade at the Parana Vale Tudo camp.
With Lee likely to be defending her belt for the first time in Singapore on November 11th, the winner of this bout could well be awarded an immediate title shot. The card will be ONE Championship’s first in Macau and is headlined by an interim flyweight title match between Adriano Moraes and Andrew Leone.
