Melvin Guillard tests positive for non PED banned substance, suspended one year and fined $10,000

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) standout Melvin Guillard can’t seem to get it right as a member of the Bellator MMA team. After beginning his promotional stint with back-to-back loses, “The Young Assassin” recorded a blistering first-round knockout win over Dave Rickels at Bellator 159.

However, Guillard has just been suspended for one year and fined $10,000 by the Kansas Athletic Commission for testing positive for a non-PED banned substance during competition for Bellator 159. The KAC stated that the substance was not of the performance-enhancing kind and that the exact substance cannot be specified at this time.

Guillard, 33, has now failed to capture victory in three Bellator appearances, as well as missing weight in four out of his last five professional mixed martial arts (MMA) bouts. He has recorded a 3-7 (2 NC) record since the beginning of 2012 and hasn’t won consecutive bouts since a five-fight UFC winning streak ending in 2011.

The KAC suspension will be retroactive to July 22, 2016, pitting Guillard for a potential MMA return in August of 2017.
