As far as British goodbyes are concerned, this could have taken a lot longer.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Michael Bisping is getting ready to tie a ribbon around his hall-of-fame mixed martial arts (MMA) career, which according to his recent timeline, could end as early as first-quarter 2018.
What a long, strange trip it’s been.
“If that fight [with St-Pierre] happens in November or December then after I beat him, one more fight in England,” Bisping told ODDSbible (via MMA Fighting). “I’m not saying 100 percent it’ll be my final fight, but I can’t fight forever. I’m in a good place right now, but who knows?”
Bisping’s decision to call it a career will no doubt hinge on his ability to face Georges St-Pierre later this year, simple because “Rush” will bring the sort of payday “The Count” can use for his retirement nest egg.
Unless UFC decides it’s tired of waiting for that fight to happen.
Time will tell.
