Miesha Tate: I wish Cris Cyborg hit ‘bully’ Angela Magana even harder

Miesha Tate has left no doubt where she stands on the now infamous incident between Cris Cyborg and Angela Magana.

Speaking to reporters at UFC 212 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the former UFC and Strikeforce bantamweight champion came down on the side of those who feel Cyborg was justified for punching Magana in the face at the recent UFC Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas.

Tate, who has found herself on the receiving end of Magana’s public criticisms in the past, believes that the incident was a matter of a bully getting what they deserve.

“That was a great day for me, I thought it was wonderful,” Tate said of the incident. “I wish she would have punched Angela harder. Angela is a bully, you know? She’s like a child who never grew up.”

UFC president Dana White recently said that he considers the incident a simple, black-and-white matter of assault. Cyborg has been cited by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for battery. But Tate, for her part, believes bullies shouldn’t be allowed to skate by without consequences.

“It’s not right,” Tate said. “And I think that there should be harsher consequences for people who publicly bully people on the internet in person, everything. So, I think she had it coming, and I don’t blame Cyborg a bit.”

While Magana is pursuing potential legal action and the Las Vegas city attorney is weighing whether to pursue charges, Tate hopes that Cyborg is cleared of any wrongdoing, if it gets to that point.

“I hope that the legal system looks at everything, because [Magana] really had it coming,” Tate said. “So I’m Team Cyborg all the way with that.”
