Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is fresh off her victory tour after last month’s submission win over Holly Holm, which took place in the UFC 196 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As a result, her confidence is at an all-time high.
That’s why “Cupcake” is convinced she would ice the “Preacher’s Daughter” even faster the second time around, reminding mixed martial arts (MMA) fans what happened in round two of their championship showdown prior to her fifth-round finish.
From Tate’s conversation with MMA Junkie:
“I have nothing but respect for her. She was a very tough opponent, but I’m even more confident going into a second fight because I didn’t push the pace on the ground when I got her on the ground, and now I feel very confident that I could have caught her sooner. So I think I would get a submission a lot earlier in a rematch, if that were to happen.”
An immediate rematch may or may not have been on the table for this summer, depending on who you ask.
Before we can start planning a do-over, Tate must first get past streaking division contender Amanda Nunes, who jumped to the front of the line after longtime “Cupcake” nemesis Ronda Rousey took herself out of the UFC 200 championship sweepstakes.
That fight takes place Sat., July 9, 2016 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Holm, meanwhile, is so very lonely.
