Miesha Tate wants Ronda Rousey rematch at Madison Square Garden

Miesha Tate has a formidable foe ahead of her at UFC 200, where she’ll the first defense of her newly won UFC women’s bantamweight championship against the dangerous Amanda Nunes.

But as Tate found herself at a Wednesday press conference at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City promoting the July 9 card in Las Vegas, she couldn’t help but cast an eye forward to the big arena next door.

Tate, who defeated Holly Holm to win the title at UFC 196, says that after she disposes of Nunes, she wants to have her trilogy fight with Ronda Rousey on the UFC’s MSG debut card at UFC 205 on Nov. 12.

“I think everything happens for a reason,” Tate said. “I told everybody I was going to beat Holly and I did, and I’m going to beat Amanda on the 9th, and I’m going to go on, and hopefully I’m going to see Ronda in Madison Square Garden. That’s going to be great.”

Another women’s bantamweight fight at UFC 200, Cat Zingano vs. Julianna Pena, is one with potential title implications, particularly since Zingano owns a stoppage victory over Tate.

But while Tate respects both competitors, she also can’t pretend that anything other than a third crack at Rousey, who defeated Tate in both the UFC and Strikeforce, is the fight she wants.

“I think either one of them makes a great contender, they’re both right in that top ranking, we’ll see who wins,” Tate said. “But either way, I’m hoping Ronda’s going to make a comeback before that.”
