Mirko Cro Cop might be injured. But that isn’t the only reason he won’t be fighting later this month.
The MMA legend has been provisionally suspended by USADA due to a potential anti-doping policy violation, the UFC announced Wednesday. USADA notified both Cro Cop and the UFC about the potential violation, according to a release. The statement did not give any details regarding the possible violation. Because of the suspension, his fight with Anthony Hamilton has been canceled.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Cro Cop,” the UFC statement said. “Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time in the process.”
Cro Cop was supposed to fight Hamilton at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Alves on Nov. 28 in Seoul, South Korea. The former PRIDE grand prix champion announced online this week that he was injured, out of the fight and likely retiring from MMA.
Apparently, that is not the whole story. Cro Cop, 41, now becomes the first person suspended by USADA since the third-party organization took over the UFC’s anti-doping program in July.
