Canadian sports broadcaster TSN reports that a match-up between 10th ranked UFC light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov and 13th ranked Patrick Cummins is set for UFC Fight Night Moncton, which is slated to go down on Saturday, October 27th. UFC officials later confirmed the matchup.
This is for the company’s first foray into the province of New Brunswick, along with fights between 205ers Gian Villante (16-10) and Ed Herman (22-13) and lightweights Nasrat Haqparast (9-2) and Thibault Gouti (12-4).
The Latvian-born, but Toronto based, Cirkunov has not fought since losing to Glover Teixeira at UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. dos Anjos in Winnipeg, Manitoba back in December. He lost that bout via TKO, on the heels of a KO loss to Volkan Oezdemir in May 2017.
Cirkunov, who has since moved his training to Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, holds a 13-4 record and owns UFC victories over Nikita Krylov and Ion Cutelaba. Patrick Cummins will enter the fight with a 10-5 record. His last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs. Lee in April.
Cummins entered the UFC on short notice to face current UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in 2014. He’s fought for the UFC 10 times since then earning wins over Gian Villante, Jan Blachowicz, and Antonio Carlos Junior.
UFC Moncton will take place at the recently opened Moncton Events Centre. The event is to be headlined by light heavyweights Volkan Oezdemir (15-2) and Anthony Smith (30-13). Also slated for the card is a heavyweight battle between Arjan Bhullar (7-1) and Marcelo Golm (6-1) (per MMA Fighting) and bantamweight bouts between Sarah Moras (5-3) and Talita Bernardo (per Globo) and Gavin Tucker (10-1) (of nearby Newfoundland) and Andre Soukhamthath (12-6) (FloCombat).
