Monday Morning Hangover: What’s next for Carlos Condit after submission loss to Demian Maia?

Another weekend of fisticuffs has come and gone, as UFC on FOX 21 went down last Saturday night (Aug. 27, 2016) from inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Plenty of fighters were left licking their wounds, including Charles Oliveira, who was forced to tap to a slick guillotine courtesy of Anthony Pettis after a hard-fought affair (recap).

And Bec Rawlings, who was absolutely wrecked by Paige VanZant and her Karate Kid impersonation (relive it again here).

But which fighter is suffering from the worst post-fight hangover now 48 hours removed from the show?

Carlos Condit.

After losing to Robbie Lawler in an instant championship classic at UFC 195 earlier this year via split decision, “The Natural Born Killer” wasn’t too sure he wanted to keep fighting again. In fact, he long proclaimed it would take a big fight or another chance at the strap to lure him back.

Enter Demian Maia.

While the submission wizard isn’t the champion, he is one of the hottest fighters in the welterweight division, going into his bout against Carlos on a five-fight win streak in the highly-competitive division. And though Carlos had all the respect in the world for Demian as a fighter, he admitted prior to their showdown that he wasn’t “the most exciting” competitor in the division.

All it took was two minutes for Maia to show him that indeed he’s “dominant” when it counts, forcing the former interim title holder to tap early in the opening frame (see it again here). And it wasn’t even competitive, as Maia proved once again his ground game is second-to-none.
