Matt Hughes and Matt Serra haven’t always gotten along.
The pair of former UFC welterweight champions squared off in the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 98 in 2009 but Hughes’ unanimous decision victory didn’t do much to put down the grudge.
Serra and Hughes have been squawking at each other ever since, even doing some impromptu matchmaking via Twitter last year. In April, Hughes said all it would take for him to make a comeback, namely against Serra, would be a phone call from UFC president Dana White.
Speaking with UFC commentators Jon Anik and Kenny Florian, Serra says White hasn’t shown interest but that he’d personally be up for his rematch with Hughes.
“It’s weird, because I hear Matt Hughes saying that and we had something over a year ago and Dana wasn’t entertaining it at all,” said Serra. “I’m not the type of guy to be begging for a fight. Don’t get me wrong, if I thought there was any way it could happen I’d be, ‘F**k yea! Let’s do it,’ but in the meantime, I’m on [testosterone replacement therapy] TRT. I’d have to get off the TRT.
