In the revolving door of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor takes, Mike Tyson isn’t breaking any new ground with this one. Though, as a longtime fan of MMA who obviously made his cheddar in the boxing world, it’s interesting to hear that the legendary heavyweight champ was more disappointed by the nitty-gritty surrounding Mayweather vs. McGregor than anything else.

“McGregor’s going to get killed,” Tyson said Monday on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast. “Boxing? I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing, because that’s what it’s all about — can the boxer beat the MMA guy? But Conor put his dumb ass in a position where he’s going to get knocked out, because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a little baby, and Conor can’t kick or grab and stuff. He not going to stand much of a chance.”

Mayweather, 40, and McGregor, 29, face off Aug. 26 in a 12-round boxing match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The pairing will likely result in one of the most lucrative fights of all-time, and even though Tyson is confident about the match’s outcome, he can’t help but be entertained by a lead-up that has already reached absurdist levels due to the recent four-day, three-country promotional world tour, which produced plenty of controversial and viral moments.

“It’s going to be exciting,” Tyson said. “The whole thing’s exciting because it’s got a circus-y kind of atmosphere, because you love the fact that you see — Conor’s a character. Like, Floyd’s never met a character like this. … ‘Boy! Come on, what are you talking about, boy?! Yeah, boy! … What do you got a bookbag for when you can’t read?’ And I want to say, ‘hey, man, that’s disrespectful,’ but the thing is, it’s so funny, man, I can’t stop.”

Unlike some boxers, Tyson said he doesn’t believe the fight will be bad for the sport of boxing, even if McGregor pulls off a miraculous upset and knocks out Mayweather.

That being said, Tyson also believes that more than a few fight fans are going to have buyer’s remorse when they wake up on Aug. 27.

“Listen, there’s no doubt it’s going to put a bad taste in people’s mouth, but it’s going to happen,” Tyson said. “I never thought it was going to happen. Then I heard about the rules, I said the rules are just sucker rules for McGregor. McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing.”

And with that little nugget of wisdom, go ahead and sit back in that chair of yours, pour yourself that morning cup of coffee and let’s dive headfirst into some headlines.
