Nate Diaz ‘not interested’ in title fights with Eddie Alvarez or Tyron Woodley

LAS VEGAS — UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has said he wants to face the winner between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is looking for money fights.

Neither of those opponents are appealing to Diaz next, though, he said Wednesday at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference.

“I think those guys need to get to work and do a little something for themselves, because no one even knows their names,” Diaz said. “I’m not interested in those fights. I’m interested in big fights.”

Alvarez told TMZ last week that he’s looking to face the Diaz-McGregor winner. Those two will throw down, of course, in the UFC 202 main event Saturday at T-Mobile Arena here in Las Vegas.

“I’m sure either one of them want the lightweight title,” Alvarez said. “They ain’t going to get it, but they can challenge for it.”

McGregor said he wasn’t down to face Alvarez, calling him a “bum” on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday.

“Right now there’s a new champion, he’s a bum as well,” McGregor said. “He’s a novice. He’s a novice on his feet, swinging shots, overhands. He just is a wrestler with an overhand as well. They’re novices where I come from and that’s the truth of it, so we’ll see about him. We’ll see.”

Diaz and Alvarez have a beef, dating back to UFC 188 last year when Alvarez beat Diaz’s longtime teammate Gilbert Melendez in somewhat of a disputed decision. The two got into it after that fight backstage.

Yet even though there is heat there, Diaz said a fight with Alvarez — or against any champion, like Woodley — isn’t all that appealing to him at the moment.
