The last man to beat Conor McGregor had something to say about the big boxing match between the Irishman and Floyd Mayweather.
As you’ve probably heard by now, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step outside of his comfort zone and into a boxing ring to fight undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather on August 26th. The mega-fight will make McGregor (and Mayweather) a pile of cash, but there’s a man that is still looking to make his own money fighting McGregor – Nate Diaz.
The Stockton native is the last man to defeat McGregor, when he choked him out in the second round of their UFC 196 bout. Conor won the rematch later that year, and Diaz has been angling for the third fight ever since. When the Mayweather bout was announced, Diaz took to social media to throw a jab at McGregor, and Mayweather by proxy:
It’s gonna be a good fight for that #2 spot.
“It’s gonna be a good fight for that # 2 spot.”
Diaz (19-11, 14-9 UFC) has been at odds with the UFC ever since the second McGregor bout. UFC president Dana White has said on multiple occasions that Diaz has been offered fights, but Diaz disputed that in an incendiary interview with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting. He also claimed he’s not interested in the trilogy bout with McGregor, but that doesn’t seem likely.
Mayweather and McGregor will fight on August 26th on Showtime PPV.
