Daniel Lima had his seven-fight winning streak snapped Sunday in Japan, and the loss came 24 hours after a scary scene at the Pancrase 290 weigh-ins.

Lima could barely stand on his own in Tokyo, Japan, to weigh in for his strawweight bout with Daichi Kitakata. Lima missed weight by two pounds.

The scene wasn’t enough for his coaches or promoters to pull the plug on the fight, so Lima went on to compete and lose a decision Sunday.

The Brazilian fighter spoke with MMA Fighting a few hours before the bout, explaining that he cut 16 pounds in two days.

“Since it was my first time outside of Brazil and I had no experience, I thought it would be easy,” Lima said. “It was tough, painful.”

Lima says he was “really bad” after weighing in, and was asked by the promotion if he would fight. “Of course, I’m ready and strong,” he told Pancrase officials.

The bout lasted 15 minutes, and Lima believes he did enough to win the first two rounds.

“They gave it to him,” he told MMA Fighting of the loss. “I was weak due to the extreme weight cut (at the weigh-ins), but I was really fine, 100 percent for the fight.”

According to Lima, who dropped 12-6 in MMA, he has two fights left on his contract with Pancrase.
